NETIO AN23 demonstrates how to connect NETIO devices (LAN / WiFi power sockets) to the ELAN AV system and control power sockets. It's using the  Netio Driver for ELAN by Intrinsic. NETIO ELAN driver is available as PRO version to control device outputs, with energy consumption monitoring and Output status feedback.

Do you have any questions?

NSC designs solutions for national telecoms, big box retailers, OEM partners, service providers, security dealers, technology integrators and consumers.

NETIO Application note AN23 shows how to set up connection of NETIO smart sockets and ELAN system, how to control power sockets and use power/energy measured data.

What you can do with ELAN and NETIO smart sockets:

The driver allows an ELAN system to communicate with a NETIO Smart Power device to control switching and also i gives feedback:

  • Relay control: Turn ON and OFF any outlet
  • Event Map Commands: All outlets can be switched ON, OFF, Toggled and Restarted (Off, 5secs, On)
  • Energy Monitoring and Status Feedback, where available

Configuration of NETIO devices to work with ELAN driver – JSON API

Recommended: Static IP

  • Login to the device web configuration
  • Go to Settings >> Network Configuration
  • Select “Set static IP address” and enter details (IP address, Net mask, Default gateway, DNS server.
  • Click Save changes and allow the unit a few minutes to save and reboot.
  • Check the device web administration using the new IP address.

Alternatively, you could use a reserved DHCP lease.

Enable HTTP JSON Support in the NETIO device:

  • Login to the device web configuration
  • Go to M2M API Protocols >> JSON API
  • Enable JSON API
  • Enable READ-WRITE
  • Set a username and password of your choice under Enable READ-WRITE. This does not need to match the main system username or password.
  • Click Save changes and allow the unit a few minutes to save and reboot.

ELAN – NETIO driver installation process

1) Download the latest version of the driver from www.intrinsicdev.com

2) Under the Input/Output tab in configurator, right click Relay Outputs and select Add New Output Controller.

3) On the next window use the Search Folder button to point Configurator to the location you saved the driver

4) Select the driver and click OK

5) Enter your NETIO device IP address along with the username and password for the JSON API that was set in the device web interface

6) This driver is powered by the Intrinsic(Athena) cloud and will auto detect if you have purchased a license for your systems MAC address.

If you have not already purchased a license it will show an error. Please navigate to www.intrinsicdev.com to rectify and within a few minutes of order completion the driver will update and activate. You do not need to enter any information manually or make changes to the driver

7) If you are using the NETIO ELAN driver Pro version of the driver and have a NETIO device that supports energy monitoring (for example NETIO PowerPDU 4C) or you would like to use the Output state feedback, please proceed with the rest of this installation guide

8) With the driver download we have included a sample home page layout file - Netio.EHP. To install go to Interface and add a new home page layout

9) Give the layout a meaningful name like Netio or Power Management and click OK

10) Right click the new layout and select import from file. Navigate to the layout file you downloaded with the driver and select it

11) Once imported you should have a sample page layout like below

12) Each box on the layout will need to be connected to the corresponding value in the driver. To do this simply click each grey box that has a blue outline and use the dropdown menu on the window to select the value you wish to use.

NB: This is only a sample of what we suggest you use the driver for, these pages are customizable and can be tweaked to suit your needs. If you have a device with less than 4 outlets or that doesn’t support all the fields shown you can simply delete the extra objects from the interface

13) In a similar fashion the relay outlet controls need connected. Simply click each outlet control and use the dropdown on the window to select the relay you wish to control

14) Once setup for the large interface type, you will need to copy the settings, and any changes you may have made, to the small interface layout. Click the Small format line and select copy from large format

15) Once complete remember to add this new home page layout to a home page tab in your system. The home page we have created is compatible with the Home, and User 1-4 tabs in the system

16) If using a user customizable tab these can be configured under System >> Main Tabs

17) Once complete your viewer should look like this

ELAN – common mistakes

  • Check that you have the correct IP address and that it has been correctly reserved in your router if using DHCP.
  • Active internet connection required
  • Use your own username / password. Do not stay with default credentials.
